Ok, sorry if I just pegged your sarcasm meter. I worked retail for many years, so my level of tolerance for shopping, especially during the holidays, is pretty much ZERO… unless it’s for technology.
So when I found out I was going to Chicago to see the latest Verizon Destination Store on Michigan Avenue, the geek-me locked the anti-shopping-me in a room and I got pretty excited.
10,000 sq. ft. of glowing screens, dazzling LED displays and every sort of tech for your home, office, vehicle, and more.
Even with everything else on Michigan Avenue, the store stands out as you’re greeted by a giant Verizon logo outside a glassed in facade which houses a 30+ foot moving LED display that can be seen for blocks.
Once you get inside, there’s a huge wall of speakers, a DJ station where you can record mixes and post online, dozens of cases for nearly every phone you can imaging, and a custom case design station where you can take a photo, or upload a current photo, pick a case and it’s sent off somewhere else in the building where the case is designed and returned to the sales floor shortly.
Moving further into the store brings you to another tall moving LED, and a HUGE wall of phones and tablets, all powered up and ready to be tested. Verizon experts are available at every step of the way to assist customers find the right technology for them or their family.
And just when you think you’re done, there’s a stairwell to the 2nd floor where the lifestyle tech lives.
Upstairs is a playground of fitness, home and leisure technology. The fitness center has all of the fitness wearables, smart watches and some really cool sport monitoring devices including a smart soccer ball and a golf glove that monitors every swing in real time. The home center has devices that connect your home to the internet for security, light and temperature control, and general devices like mobile and wireless charging, tablet stands, and wireless speakers/headphones. Finally, there’s a toy section that feature flying and driving drones, GoPro cameras, and Crayola coloring devices for the kids.
And finally, we can’t leave out the business section. Here’s where you can outfit your mobile technology with credit card taking devices, purchase hardened cases and screen covers and check out the huge selection of business accessories. There’s also charging and relaxation stations throughout the store so customers can sit down, charge their own devices, and discuss all of the technology in the store.
Unfortunately, I don’t live close to this amazing store, so I had to shop quickly to find gifts for me and my list, but if you’re in the Chicago area, I highly recommend you drop in for a while and get hands-on experience with just about any sort of mobile technology you can imagine. Odds are you’ll knock out a huge part of your list in one spot.
And don’t forget to check out the other Verizon Destination Stores throughout the country, with more on the way.
Happy Holiday shopping everyone! And remember tech gifts make the best gifts!
By the way, all the photos in this post were taken on my Motorola Droid Turbo. Amazing camera!
Disclosure: As member of a pretty cool team of influencers, I received the Motorola Droid Turbo and other devices with line of service from Verizon. No additional compensation was provided nor did I promise a positive review. All opinions are my own.
