There are some positions in sports where one can get by on straight up physical ability and/or guts. NFL kick returners, NBA shooting guards (who plays defense?), and MLB DH’s are there to do a job based on a pretty specific skill. Others like NFL defensive linemen and NBA centers have great skill, but have some technique that has to be executed.
But when it comes to mind games, quirkiness and mental toughness there are precious few sports positions that rival baseball pitchers, football kickers… and hockey goalies.
A good goalie can win championships, become the face of a franchise and be a highlight reel all to himself. Bad goalies can cost a team dozens of games, take as much heat in a hockey city as the starting NFL franchise quarterback and be a target for opposing teams.
Think about this, how would you like it if every time you made a mistake at your job, even if it wasn’t your fault, a little red light went on above your head, music started playing, and thousands of drunks started pointing at you and shouted “sieve?” Such is the life of a goalie. And you just have to skate to the corner and back, take a drink of water, and wait for the next puck to come.
Now that doesn’t mean they don’t occasionally snap and do something memorable. And that brings us to today’s video, which features 14 minutes of goalies losing their s**t, breaking sticks, throwing things, and more. Really, who can blame them wanting to go all lumberjack on a goal post once in a while? It’s a high-stress position!
Watch and enjoy all that is, 14 Minutes of Pissed Off Goalies.
