Image1A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

It’s rare for the beginning of a movie to draw out emotions like the Star Wars saga. Those of us that have been around since the beginning remember how different it all looked. Those like my daughter, who came aboard during the “new” series were drawn to the leap forward using CGI, and while the story was suspect, it still entertained millions of movie goers.

But this version is different. There’s already an established plot and characters. There’s already the established mythos of the Force and those surrounding it. All that’s left is to establish a few new characters, throw in some new CGI effects, and blow some stuff up!

Of course, there are those of us that like to know more, and thankfully the internet and mobile apps are there for us. Below are a few of the best Android apps (some area also available for iOS systems) around the Star Wars universe. With the movie only days away, I can think of no better way to get up to speed and to stay informed and entertained as we move through the next series of Star Wars movies.

Official Star Wars App
Well, we have to start at the official app for fans. Read news, play trivia, and take your selfie with your favorite Star Wars character. You can even train with your lightsaber!

Wikia : Star Wars
Created by Star Wars fans for Star Wars fans, the Star Wars Wikia is a vast knowledge base from the movie, television, comics and more.

R2D2 Translator
Translate incoming text messages into whistles and buzzes that only a droid could understand.

Darth Vader Voice Changer
You know you want to sound like Darth Vader (except the Nooooooooooooooooo! part). So now you can record your voice and play it back through mobile device all Darthy-like.

SW Battlefront Companion
Some (ok, A LOT) of you are going to be playing Star Wars – Battlefront in the coming days, weeks and/or months. Stay connected with the SW Battlefront Companion in ways only a droid could have thought of. Check stats, wait for your friends to group up and play together, receive incoming transmissions, and play some side games all from this app.

Star Wars Movies
The previous Star Wars movies are available to view on your digital mobile devices through Google Play. Watch all six before you head to the theaters to see the new addition to the collection.

Star Wars Retro Arcade Game
And this one’s for me, and those of you who were born a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. It’s the original Star Wars arcade game on your mobile device. Horrible graphics, worse sounds, but it’s still a great 80’s arcade experience in the palm of your hands!

Star Wars is back, folks! We are mere days away from another chapter in one of the most successful film franchise ever, so get ready with these apps and more.

And don’t forget the awesome Fandango app. It will let you buy tickets, if there are any left, to the first showing of the film. The IMDb movie app, which will let you research the film stars. And, of course, YouTube, which as TONS of fan documentaries, reactions, gossip and more.

Do you have an app that I missed? Send them to me @BeBizzy on Twitter or leave them in the comments below!  FYI, I created the blog post cover photo at http://www.theverge.com/a/star-wars-meme. Go create your own!

And, may the Force be with you!

Disclosure: As member of a pretty cool team of influencers, I received a mobile phone and with line of service from Verizon. No additional compensation was provided nor did I promise a positive review. All opinions are my own.
