5 Twitter Account Tweaks To Make In December Downtime

by MarvD
December 8th, 2011

You’ve been running all year.  Meeting to meeting.  Client to client.  And finally you reach the middle of December and everything stops.  Budgets are maxed out.  Decision-makers and account staff are taking some days off before Christmas and New Years.  And you are trying to get year-end bookkeeping wrapped up.

But somewhere in the next few days, you’re probably going to have a few moments to pause, maybe even rest a bit.  Surely there is something productive during this short time, right?

Well, remember that Twitter account you created, posted to for two weeks, and now check only to see what @GuyKawasaki is posting?  Time to spruce that up for the new year!

Below are five easy tweaks you can make to your Twitter account that will increase your visibility, make Twitter more usable, and maybe get you back on the path to using it as part of your business marketing strategy. Read More→

Follow Friday – YouTube Stars

by MarvD
October 27th, 2011

Youtube.com has made stars out of everyday folks for many, many years now.  We watched the Evolution of Dance, Leeroy Jenkins!, the Grape Stomping Lady, and the Star Wars Kid get passed around social circles at lightening speed, providing instant entertainment and distraction from work.

And while most of these people don’t push fame past their meteoric flash through the internet, a few have become memes, or in some cases, actually famous. Read More→

Follow Friday – Customer Service

by MarvD
October 14th, 2011

If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Facebook the last few days, you’re probably aware that I’ve had a very negative customer service experience lately.

I’m not proud of the rants this little episode sparked, but coming from a very diverse customer service background that includes call centers, retail and social media, I was very upset that the company in question failed at every opportunity to make a bad situation turn into a positive experience.  I’m not going to call out the company here.  If you want, go back in the stream and look for it.

That being said, there are companies out there doing a great job of interacting with their customers.  The six companies below are in some cases, local to me (North Dakota), national (US), and even global.  They all engage their customers quickly online, handle them like valued customers, and provide great information. Open Multiple Excel Windows

by MarvD
October 4th, 2011

One of the things I’ve always hated about Microsoft Excel is that every time you open a new document it opens in the same window/frame, so without some creative maneuvering you can’t really have two spreadsheets open together.

I found a fix today that took a little bit of work, but work it did.

Here’s how to get multiple Excel worksheets open at the same time.  Quick disclaimer… you are making changes to the operation of Windows Explorer and how it opens all Excel documents.  BeBizzy Consulting recommends you undertake this at your own risk and is not responsible for any damage you may do to your documents or computer if the steps below are followed, correctly or not.

By the way, this fix is for Windows XP.  Vista and Windows 7 also has a fix, but it’s a bit more complicated.  Instructions for that process is here.  Be careful.

Should I Post On Big News Days?

by MarvD
October 4th, 2011

The 24-hour news stations and explosion of social media news sharing means that there’s never really a time without breaking news.  But in reality, some news days are completely dull, filled with droning financial news and the latest political drivel while other days are filled with flashy scandals and big announcements… perfect fodder for social media.

Today is one of those days.  Already two major events will be taking place, one the same date, at the same time, thousands of miles away.  First, everyone is thinking Apple will announce the new iPhone 5 today.  Apple announcements are always huge on Twitter and Facebook, not to mention live-blogging and maybe even some streaming on UStream and other media outlets.  Then, just a few minutes ago, Clayton Morris of Fox News posted on his twitter account that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has scheduled a news conference for 1pm… the same time as Apples announcement. Follow Friday – Twitter Financial Analysis and News

by bizzy
August 5th, 2011

So how’s your stock portfolio?

If it’s anything like mine, we both need to start answering some of those get-rich-at-home ads you see on late night television.  You know the ones.  ”I was $90,000 in credit card debt and now I’m driving a Corvette and going to Disneyland!”

Well believe it or not, those plans don’t work.  At least for most folks.

So your best bet is to stay on top of the information stream of financial news so you don’t drown in news channel analysis.  Twitter can do that.

Below is a short list of “trusted” financial analysts who will provide a wide variety of news and analysis of the financial situations.  And right now we are in a situation. Read More→

Follow Friday – Triberr Social Media Makers

by bizzy
July 1st, 2011

As usual, most great ideas I hear about social media come from Chris Brogan. No wonder he was named the #1 small business social media mogul by Dunn and Bradstreet in a Wall Street Journal article a few days ago.

But I’m not here to talk about Chris as much as I am here to talk about my new friends, and why you need to be following them on Twitter. Read More→

Microsoft Buys Skype for $8.5B – News Conference

by bizzy
May 10th, 2011

Microsoft announced today it will be acquiring Skype for the nice round number of $8.5B.

I have two thoughts. Personally, I like the fact that personal desktop conferencing will find a wider audience as it moves to Kinect-set top boxes, computers, and other internet-ready devices.

Professionally, since I work for a company that supports high-end video conferencing, I think this move will keep Skype out of the standards-based video conferencing space and keep the quality where it is at; a good thing for the industry.

The press conference is being live-streamed below starting at 8am Pacific, and I’m guessing will be archived for later viewing.

What’s your thoughts on this acquisition? Leave them in the comments below. Read More→
