As I prepared to give another presentation to the monthly NDTweetup meeting in Bismarck last Thursday, I did some research on the state of Twitter in North Dakota. The NDTweetup meeting is a collection of marketers, business people, journalists and other folks with an interest in social media and networking. Currently the “club” is only meeting in Bismarck, but the hope is to get interest brewing in other areas of the state.
But North Dakota is taking a beating when you look at the stats.
Hubspot, a company that specializes in monitoring inbound marketing techniques has published a couple of punishing reports in regards to ND and Twitter.
First, Hubspot runs TwitterGrader.com, a site that uses an algorithm to calculate your twitter “score,” or measure of influence. According to the infographic, ND is last in average Twitter score. That means we have fewer followers, follow fewer people, post less, get “retweeted” less, and basically have lower Twitter “influence.”
Hubspot also tracks the number of active Twitter accounts by state, and guess what? Dead last again. In fact, 51st, because they added Washington D.C.
So, I’m taking up the mantle. I’m on a crusade to move North Dakota up the list, at least past South Dakota (two higher than us). I want to gather all the North Dakota Twitter Users in one place, so we can stay connected.
My plan is simple… follow @BeBizzy if you haven’t already done so by clicking the follow button below.
Once you have followed me, or if you are already following @BeBizzy on Twitter, click the bird below to send me a tweet telling me your a North Dakotan and I’ll add you to one of hopefully several Twitter lists on my profile page. These lists will be featured on my Twitter profile. Browse the list for people you know or find interesting, and together we can get North Dakota off the bottom of the list and moving towards being a bigger player in the Twitter community.

love the concept, lets pull ND off the bottom!
You might consider aggregating identified ND twitter accounts (or subgroups of them) so tweets can be displayed all in one place. It would make it easier to identify who people should follow.
@Douglas_T Trying to get a bunch into some twitter lists for just that reason. Already filled one list up, but it has both ND and SD users and started a second list. Check them out on my profile – http://www.twitter.com/bebizzy
