For most of you, Facebook was probably the introduction to social networking.
But eventually some of you may have ventured further into the social media water and joined LinkedIn. LinkedIn has been described as “Facebook for Adults.” I don’t know if I agree with that, but LinkedIn can be used as a valuable tool to reach business people in your line of work, your target market, or just past co-workers that may have moved on to new industries but may still be of value.
Part of the maturation process for all social networking platforms is the inevitable “how can we use this to make money?” phase. The spammers are usually the first to capitalize, but many times the media platforms move swiftly to close the gaping holes. Once that calms down, valuable, non-invasive marketing opportunities materialize. With Facebook, fan pages became a vehicle for businesses to acquire an inbound audience. With Twitter, it was opted-in followers. LinkedIn has Connections that are approved, and groups to which you must be accepted.
One of the leaders in finding methods to reach, manage, and measure marketing success in social networking is Hubspot. And yesterday (Thursday, February 25, 2010) they conducted a webinar titled “LinkedIn Best Practices from LinkedIn’s Top Marketing Community.”
From the webinar’s main page, you can download the slideshow from Slideshare, download and watch the playback of the webinar in .wmv format, and download their “How to Use LinkedIn for Business” e-book (.pdf).
