Why Did I Lose Free Wi-Fi?

As Leo Laporte says in this video… we’ve all done it.

You need to check your email quick, there’s an open hotspot next to a business or apartment complex so you fire up your laptop and BAM, you’re online.

But what you may or may not know, it’s actually illegal.  And beyond that fact, it can be very dangerous to your identity and personal information.

Below is a call from Leo Laporte’s Tech Guy radio show where a caller can’t believe she can no longer get her free wi-fi in her apartment.  Leo explains why this is bad.

But to go a little further, the second video shows how easy it is for criminals to access data on unprotected wi-fi hotspots.

If you are surfing on an unprotected wireless access point, take a few moments to learn how to turn on your encryption and protect your data.
